"A traveler cannot bring a better burden on a voyage than plenty of wisdom"

SWV Youth Programs are for everyone 8 - 15 years old. We offer free beginner online courses for kids to get started learning, and advanced courses for when they are ready to level up their skills.

From Lego to wood and metal kids can learn how to get started building out of any material or textile, identify local flora and fauna, and basic seamanship.

We are also building Viking Camp, a day camp where kids will get to learn how to build their own boats and sail them at waterfront parks around Puget Sound. See below for more details!

Viking Camp

A day camp for school age kids (8-15 yrs) providing a safe and fun environment for hands-on education, building the confidence and character to face challenges with the heart of a Viking

  • On land

On land, campers will learn how ancient Scandinavians and their neighbors navigated various aspects of daily life including wood and metal working, design, painting, foraging and cooking.

Campers will also be issued padded “boffer” swords and shields to learn advanced teamwork using shield wall techniques.

  • on the water

To prepare for their aquatic adventures campers will attend daily shore school to learn aquatic safety, basic seamanship, rowing/ paddling, and beginner sailing.

Campers will then learn how to properly use the same tools and techniques as Viking age Scandinavians, as well as commonly used modern tools, to build a small fleet of functioninal boats.

  • onward to adventure

Working together, campers will traverse from one end the park to another where they will use every skill they’ve learned to explore “new lands”, discover mythological creatures and search for treasure.

Upon return to their village they will celebrate their victories with Iron-age games and a pot-luck feast fit for Vikings.

We are now accepting pre-registration for Viking Camp!!

Signing up now will ensure that you are at the top of the list in your area, no matter when we bring Viking Camp there.

You will also receive update emails that are tailored to the camp in your area, as well as overall Viking Camp updates.

This will also help us to determine where the highest demand is to limit commute time for parents and ensure each child gets the full teamwork experience.

We are already in talks with parks in the areas of Lake Sammamish, Lake Stevens, Liberty Bay and Lake Washington among others, but are still open to suggestions from any park, school or other designated safe swimming area or pool in the Puget Sound area.
